Dogs Lend a Paw to Romance
March 27th, 2000
Today in Ottawa, Canada, Pastor Deborah Ann (Duffy) Taylor and Adrian Cho, were engaged to be married. Two years ago, Duffy and Adrian met on the Malamute-L list - an e-mail list for owners, breeders, and people interested in Alaskan Malamutes. The truth behind this wonderful story of romance on the Internet, is that the match made in heaven was brokered by Adam Taylor, Top Dog of Adam Taylor Enterprises.
Adam and his Malamute buddy Kira started the tennis ball rolling back in 1998, with frequent trans-Pacific e-mail exchanges when Kira, her brother Chief, and their father Adrian, were living in Sydney, Australia (they recently emigrated to Ottawa, Canada). After Kira and Adam broke the ice, Duffy and Adrian joined in. Thousands of e-mails and phone calls eventually led to visits to Minneapolis for Adrian, and a visit to Sydney, Australia for Duffy.
Duffy and Adrian are planning to be married in September, 2000 and will make their home in rural Minneapolis in 2001. The merging of the Taylor and Cho households will bring together five dogs - three Alaskan Malamutes: Kira, Chief, and Adam, Adam's two sisters: Kate - an Aussie Shepherd cross, and Daisy May - a Cardigan Welsh Corgi, and Adam's five feline brothers - Grendel, Luther, Melanchthon, Ambrose, and Mordecai. Add to that: a fiercely independent, baseball loving, feminist, Luddite, Lutheran pastor, and an equally independent, extremely ambitious, piano-playing, technology loving, software engineer, of Chinese descent, born in Australia, and residing in Canada.
In an official statement today, Adam Taylor said: "The fact that these two humans
can get together is clear evidence that love conquers all barriers. However it is obvious that they could not have
done it without the help of Adam Taylor e-Match. If you are a dog and your human needs help in the
dating game, contact Adam Taylor e-Match and we'll set your human up in a relationship today.".
Adam Taylor e-Match is an Internet-based startup funded by Adam Taylor Enterprises, which Mr. Taylor says will meet the needs of single dog-owning humans everywhere. According to Mr. Taylor, this first match was simply a test case. "We didn't seriously think they would get this far on their own but we are happy it worked out and particularly glad that Adrian decided to woo [sic] my Mom. Besides which, I'm glad to have a Dad and I can't wait to chase and wrestle Kira and Chief.".
Although Mr. Taylor claims his company is directly responsible for the romance between his Mom and his soon-to-be Dad, he is more than happy to share credit with his immediate and extended canine and feline family. "Occasionally they needed a push. On one occasion, the cats even had to dial the telephone number to call Australia. Of course they forgot to tell my Mom they had made the call so Adrian ended up speaking to me until my Mom bothered to discover the phone off the hook.".
According to company spokesdog Kira - reportedly the real brains behind the operation, success is guaranteed because matches are made based on the compatibility of the dogs and not the humans. In reference to the upcoming marriage of her father and Ms. Taylor, Kira reportedly woo'ed "I love it when a plan comes together.".
Mr. Taylor's company, Adam Taylor Enterprises is reportedly overflowing its coffers due to the success of it's radish growing and distribution business. Last year, the company released Doggy Odour Plus, a line of shampoos specifically marketed to dogs, that allows any dog to smell like a canine of a different breed or sex. Mr. Taylor's younger sister, Daisy May, is responsible for the success of that product. She said: "Doggy Odour Pwus allows a widdle Corgi wike me to smell wike a big dog. I pawticularly like the Gwate Dane scent myself.". Other dogs clearly agree because since it's release late last year, Doggy Odour Plus has done great business. Mr. Taylor was reported as saying "What dog wouldn't want to smell like an Alaskan Malamute?".
Adam Taylor Enterprises which is privately held, does not have to disclose any financial details and Mr. Taylor refutes any reports that he squanders a fortune while his Mom struggles financially. "My entire fortune - if you can call it that, exists purely in the form of dog cookies - not exactly a very liquid asset, being mostly dry due to the high flour content.". Those close to Mr. Taylor, are not at all surprised by his success in business. His grandma, Linda Dowdy, reportedly said: "I know how his devious little mind works.".
