I was totally blown away when I found out that Chief would sing to the music of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Perhaps it is no mere coincidence that the character of Miles O'Brien is often referred to as "Chief"!
Most weeknights at 1:05 AM, I will watch Star Trek: TNG. At first when Chief would start singing to the music, I thought he was complaining about it so I would turn down the volume until the music was finished. I did this for months on end and then one night decided to see what would happen if I let Chief hear the entire musical piece. I discovered that Chief would not only actually woo along with the music but that he actually tries to match the pitch and the rhythm!! Chief really belts out a solo when the music comes on and he doesn't let up until it completes.
I have recorded two of Chief's singing sessions in the RealMedia and MPEG-3 formats below. Note that on the Official Take Chief doesn't start singing until about the 51 second mark. Warning: You may be tempted to turn the volume up to hear Patrick Stewart's dialogue. Be careful because Chief sings with considerable gusto! We guarantee you will be either amazed or laughing hysterically or both!
Hint: This is twice as funny if you have a dog with you when you listen to it.

Way to go Chief, please give him a big hug from us over here in the United Kingdom!!!( ) | Well, although I was playing this in the office, while our seven Sibes were in the house, all 13 of ours decided that they had to be the chorus... Hope my neighbours liked it! |
| I had three malamutes on, in and under my computer desk trying to figure out where the heck that dog is! They joined in eventually, too :) The tears are still streaming down my face! Way to go Chief! | What a lovely concert! Chief is definitely musical! My puppy Skye jumped up and listened with surprise and cocked her head this way and that first time through, then I played it again and she howled along with Chief!! Of course I was cracking up the entire time! |
