Malamutes

If you are just interested in Alaskan Malamutes or you are thinking about becoming an owner, you may find some interesting information here. A lot of people are drawn to the breed because of its striking appearance or they fancy the idea of having a 'wolf-dog' (which of course a Malamute is not). Unfortunately way too many people do not do the necessary research. It goes without saying that becoming an owner of any dog, whether it is a Malamute, or any other pure or mixed breed, is not like buying a toy. Malamutes demand attention, physical activity, and above all, full membership as a part of your family.

There are a great many things that make Malamutes different to other canine breeds and Malamutes are not for everyone. I feel very strongly that Malamutes are not a good breed for children unless adults play a very significant role. I have lost count of the number of times that we have met families with children and parted to the cries of "I want one". The all too common result of failed Malamute ownership is evident in the many Malamutes that are given up to shelters, abandoned, and abused each year. It is a terribly sad and cruel situation.

There are many excellent sources of information about Malamutes. Please check the Further Reading section on this site as well as the links below. If you want to know more, please feel free to send me an e-mail and I'll do my best to help you.
